Legislation introduced in the Rhode Island General Assembly would allow Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy to marry a young couple there.

The proposed law:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other general or special law to the contrary, The  Honorable Dannel P. Malloy, Governor of Connecticut, may join Megan Lynne Cooney and Gregory Robert Pearsall in marriage within the City of Newport, Rhode Island, on or about June 8, 2013. The Honorable Dannel P. Malloy, Governor of Connecticut, is hereby authorized and empowered to join the foregoing persons in marriage pursuant to and in accordance with chapter 15-3 of the general laws, entitled “Solemnization of Marriages.”

No word yet from Malloy’s office about his relationship to the couple.
